The mullayanagiri gets its name from a small temple at the summit, which is dedicated to a Tapasvi Mullappa Swamy, who is believed to have meditated at the cave near the summit. For trekking enthusiasts, the location offers an opportunity to engage in activities like mountain biking, trekking and road biking. It is the highest peak in Karnataka, it offers some very interesting trails.

The trekking route to the peak begins from Sarpadhari, which is connected with Chikmagalur by road. This travel is 3 km long moderate level trek which is fairly steep and takes about 1.5 hrs to reach the peak. Undeviating road access is also available closer to the peak which needs less than 1 km trek and takes about 20-30 mins. The views from the top of Mullayanagiri are breathtaking.

The trek path is a small stream, a Nandi statue and a cave with a small water source inside. The trekking trails from Mullayanagiri are Baba Budangiri (12 km), Manikyadhara Falls (9 km) and Deviramma Temple (13 km). However, the charm of this trail lies in the Ridge Walk and Blade Walk along the linear hills of the Baba Budangiri ranges.

The stretch involves a steep descent downhill to meet the main road. The trial involves a gentle ascent uphill and a unique ridge walk. Usually, there is heavy fog and visibility challenges as one trek on the ridges.

Ramanagara Trek :

KUMARA PARVATHA TREKKING :

It is located 15 km from Kukke Subramanya, 30 km from Somwarpet, 65 km from Madikeri, 115 km from Mangalore, 260 km from Bangalore, Kumara Parvatha, also known as Pushpagiri, is a good looking mountain peak located in Pushpagiri reserve forest near Kukke Subramanya town in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. It is located at an elevation of 1712 m above sea level, Kumara Parvatha trek is one of the toughest treks and most popular trekking destinations in the Western Ghats of Karnataka.

The distance is around 25 km (with return) and usually done in 2 days. This peak is the third tallest peak in Karnataka, Mullayanagiri in Chikmagalur being the tallest and Thadiyandamol in Coorg being the second tallest. This trek is one among the most popular trekking trails in Karnataka.

There are numerous white stones that are known as ‘Saligramams’. The Shivalingas with six faces, also known as the ‘Kumaralingas’, can also be seen here. This trekking trail passes through the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, it is required to obtain permission from the forest department to take up trekking expeditions to Kumara Parvatha.

There is a forest check post along the trekking route near Battara Mane, from which visitors can obtain the necessary permission to trek beyond the check gate. Suppose, visitors are opting for the second route via Beedehalli, then they need to obtain permission from the forest office at Somwarpet.

Baba Budan Giri Hills :

This hill is famous for its distinct forest range, is a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Muslims. The mountain range, also known as Dattagiri Hill Range, is popular among tourists keen on hiking and trekking. Mullayanagiri along with Dattagiri are two famous mountain ranges of the region. Located 25 km north of Chikmagalur town, the mountain range features beautiful shrines.

Adventure activity seekers can hike through the forest to visit the historic shrine of Deviramma Betta. Additionally, the hills such as Sitalayanna Giri provide scenic views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Located in the Western Ghats, the range is a part of Chandradrona Parvatha Shreni, Chandradrona Mountain Range. The Baba Budan Giri Hills is the highest peak in the Mullayanagiri, standing at an altitude of 1,930 meters. Trekkers can walk along the coffee plantations, during the flowering season in the months of March and April.  

Dandeli Hills :

Going to Dandeli from Pune, Mysore, Coorg, Madikeri, and Goa is a cake walk, resulting in the kind of influx of people who seek the same adventures.

The full concept of “trek” is something we don’t really meet in our regular western way of traveling. So, it is still nothing like trekking particularly in the hill region we are going to speak about here.
